For sale is a built-by-designer , Bottlehead Crack OTL headphone amplifier with Speedball upgrade. Included with the amplifier is a power cord , Tung Sol 6AS7G , and GE 5814 . Two additional old stock 12AU7 tubes will be included if purchased at the Buy-It-Now price. This is in excellent condition and has traveled with the Bottlehead team to headphone shows.
This is the Crack that was used to write the assuembly manual, and was fitted with the original Speedball board (note the different color and humorous text on the PCB).
This output transformerless amplifier is perfect for high impedance headphones above 250 ohms, (e.g. Sennheiser HD 580 / HD 600 / HD 650 / HD 800; Beyerdynamic DT 770 / DT 880 / DT 990), generating approximately 300mW of output power. The Speedball upgrade is a Camille Cascode Constant Current Source upgrade for the Crack -- replacing the 22k1 ohm plate loads of the 12AU7 with C4S load, as well as the 3K ohm cathode load resistors of the 6080 triodes. Bottlehead is an established maker of high-end amplifiers, including vacuum tube-based, headphone, and preamps located in Bainbridge Island, WA. Bottlehead Crack Mods

I just ordered my crack w/o speedball for now. Hopefully I can put this thing together without too much trouble:) Super Best Audio Friends. I have a Bottlehead Crack + Speedball powering my HD650 and at the moment i believe my sound card (asus essence stx) is the weak link in my system. Can u suggest some dacs in the 4-600 price range. Speedball is our Camille Cascode Constant Current Source upgrade for the Crack headphone amplifier. The 22.1KΩ plate loads of the 12AU7 input triodes are replaced by C4S loads, as are the 3KΩ cathode load resistors of the 6080 triodes.
